Application Tracking Template: Save the Submitted Version

Track the posting, submitted resume, cover letter, confirmation, and interview notes together. Download a blank workbook or use the existing browser tracker.

Download the blank application tracker

The workbook has one row per application, status choices, sortable columns, and fields for the exact submitted filenames. It opens in compatible spreadsheet software and can be imported into Google Sheets. It does not submit applications or synchronize with this website.

Download application tracker (XLSX)

Keep the workbook and exported resume files somewhere safe. They can contain personal information. Downloading a blank template does not send your application records to this site.

Keep the document pair

Save the actual resume and cover letter submitted, then record their filenames. A later draft may contain different claims; preparation should start from the version the employer received.

Keep the posting context

Record the employer, role, job URL, and requisition identifier. Save relevant notes about responsibilities and requirements because a posting may change or disappear after submission.

Keep the next action visible

Use the status, next-action, and follow-up-date fields to distinguish waiting from an action you owe. A saved role is not an application, and an application is not an interview.

Prepare from evidence

Interview notes should point to real examples supporting the posting. Include a project, decision, difficulty, and verification you can explain. Do not add private information about other candidates or unnecessary details about contacts.

Recommended Workflow

Step 1

Create one application record

Enter the employer, role, URL, and requisition identifier. Keep separate rows for distinct applications even when they share a job title.

Step 2

Record the submission

Add the submitted date, exact document filenames, and confirmation. Open the files once to confirm they are the intended versions.

Step 3

Update the next step

When the employer responds, update the status and action date. Keep interview preparation beside that application rather than in an unrelated draft.

What A Better Result Usually Looks Like

Version names are unambiguous

Use filenames you can distinguish later. Keep the final submitted files separate from editable drafts.

Dates and states are accurate

Use the actual submission date. Leave unknown dates blank rather than estimating them.

Sensitive backups are protected

A copy of this workbook can contain your job-search history. Review cloud-sharing permissions before storing or sending it.
