Choosing a template
Every template on this page is free and exports to Word or PDF. What follows is the part the template gallery cannot tell you: which resume format fits your situation, and which formatting choices quietly break in an applicant tracking system.
Every layout here exports as a Word resume template as well as a PDF. That choice is not nostalgia. Older enterprise systems, Taleo in particular, still parse DOC more reliably than PDF, and a few application portals reject PDFs outright. If a posting names a format, follow it; if it does not, PDF is the safer default because it fixes the layout. Keeping the Microsoft Word resume template version alongside it costs nothing and removes the scramble when a portal insists on a .doc file.
The simple resume templates in this set are not the budget option, they are the reliable one. A basic format for resume content means a single column, ordinary section headings, real text rather than graphics, and no tables. That easy resume format parses cleanly on every major applicant tracking system. Elaborate layouts fail in specific and predictable ways: a two-column design is read left to right and interleaves your sidebar into your job history, a skills bar conveys nothing to a parser, and text inside a box is often skipped entirely.
Not the flourishes. A professional resume layout is consistent, legible at a glance, and spends its space on evidence rather than decoration. The professional resume templates here differ mainly in typography and how much room they give to a summary versus experience. Pick by what you need to show: an executive layout gives the summary more weight because seniority is argued at the top, while an early-career layout leaves room for projects because that is where the proof is.
There is no single best resume format, and any site claiming one is simplifying to sell something. Reverse-chronological suits most people and is what recruiters expect. A hybrid layout helps when you are changing field and the skills matter more than the sequence. A functional layout hides dates, which recruiters read as a warning, so use it only when you have a specific reason. The good resume templates for you are the ones that present your actual history without needing to disguise it.
There is no direct Google Docs export here, so the honest route is the DOC file: export the resume as Word, then open it from Google Drive, which converts it into an editable document. Formatting survives this on the single-column layouts because there is little for the converter to misread. Be aware that the conversion can shift spacing slightly, so re-check the page breaks before you download the final copy, and export from Google Docs back to PDF rather than submitting the converted file directly.
An early-career resume has the opposite problem to a senior one. There is not enough employment history to fill the page, so the layout has to give room to projects, coursework, and internships without looking padded. The Entry and Student family is built for that, and Brief Minimal is the one to start with if you are applying for internships or graduate roles. Harbor Minimal and Opal Minimal work for the same stage when you have a little more to show. All three keep education near the top, which is the right order while your degree is more recent than your work.
The preview shows how the template renders in the editor. What an employer receives is the exported file, and those are not always the same thing. Once you have picked a resume template and filled it in, export it and run that file through the ATS checker. It takes a moment and it confirms the thing that actually matters: that your name, dates, titles, and skills survive extraction from the document you are about to attach.
Free including the download. All 20 are available without an account, a card, or a watermark, in both Word and PDF. Gating the export is the standard pattern on template sites and it is deliberately not the pattern here, because a resume you cannot download is not a resume.
Yes. Export any template as a DOC file and it opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, or Pages with the structure intact, so you can keep editing without coming back here. It is worth keeping that file, because a resume template in Word format is the version you will want when an application portal refuses PDFs.
Not as a direct export, and it would be easy to imply otherwise. The workaround is reliable: export the Word version, upload it to Google Drive, and open it with Google Docs, which converts it to an editable file. The single-column layouts survive that conversion well. Check the page breaks afterwards, because the conversion can move them.
A single-column layout with conventional headings is a useful starting point, but no template guarantees compatibility with an employer’s system. Export your completed document and inspect its recovered text with our checker. That checks our extraction only; follow the employer’s file instructions and review the original layout too.
Each resume template is paired with a cover letter style that shares its typography and margins, so the two documents look like they belong together. You can open the cover letter builder directly, and it reuses the details you already entered rather than asking for them again.
Twenty, spanning minimal, professional, executive, modern, and academic families. Switching does not cost you anything: content and layout are stored separately, so you can move a finished resume into a different template and see it re-flow without retyping a line.
